For many centuries
the Nordlands have been home to a large and powerful Tzeentch tribe known as the
Storm Ravens. The capital city for the Storm Ravens is located on a
mountainside, surrounding the great Halls of Change which is an ancient fortress
built into the mountainside as a tribute to Tzeench himself. As one travels away
from the capital there are many lands that fall in the realm of the Storm
Ravens. Immediately outside of the capital one would either enter the farm town
known as Ravenwind, or the vast river valley known as The Valley of Fate. Beyond
the town of Ravenwind and The Valley of Fate one reaches the beginnings of the
wastelands, which the Storm Ravens call Storms Reach and the Wastes of Change.
The Halls of Change
are home to the lords and heroes of the realm, along with many of the high
ranking champions of the mighty tribe. Besides being the home of the elite
fighters and wizards, The Halls of Change are also home to many of the finest
blacksmiths and clothiers who equip the forces of The Storm Ravens. Many
monuments to past lords, heroes, greater daemons of Tzeentch, and Tzeentch
himself line the many passageways of the great halls.
The lands of
Ravenwind are rich and fertile lands, despite their location in some of the
northernmost reaches of the known world. Many people attribute this to the
strong magical abilities of many followers of Tzeemtch. The population of
Ravenwind is almost that of the capital city, but is mostly comprised of
peasants and slaves who farm the lands and tend the livestock to support the
realm of The Storm Ravens. In addition to farmers there are also a few merchants
that provide simple services and necessities for the townsfolk.
The Valley of Fate
is just a small portion of the vast river valley that runs through much of the
Nordlands. The river is used for trade, as well as a method for chaos warriors
to travel to the southern realms on their long boats to wreak havoc on the lands
of The Empire. This particular portion gets its name from the many claims over
time, that Kairos Fateweaver, The Oracle of Tzeentch , has been seen in the
flesh roaming the river valley. Besides the numerous claims that Kairos has been
spotted here, there are a large number of other odd things about this portion of
the river valley. The most prominent of the oddities is that the river through
this portion of the valley flows with magma, except in times that chaos tribes
from farther north are wishing to peacefully pass through for trade or in route
to pillage the lands of the empire. North of the lands of The Storm Ravens the
waters are frozen and require massive ice breakers leading fleets of ships for
passage, and to the south the waters become calm and peaceful waters. Some
believe that this is the work of the Chaos gods themselves to protect the
passageway into the northernmost parts of the Nordlands, considering that the
Storm Ravens hold the southernmost section of the inhabitable Nordlands.
Storms Reach is a
peculiar portion of the Storm Ravens realm. While mostly uninhabitable, the
tribe makes great use of the lands here. First and foremost it acts as a first
defense against invasion from the southern regions of the world in that it
requires great fortitude to survive the brutality of the lands themselves. These
lands also act as one of the main locations were great wizards of Storm Raven
tribe are created. The lands here are torn by magic and are littered with many
magical fulcrums, making them the perfect place for wizards to learn to harness
the great powers of magic. Wizards learn here both through instruction, and by
the natural tendency to fight amongst themselves to prove themselves worthy of
gifts from the Chaos gods.
The Wastes of
Change are exactly what the name implies. These lands are torn by the winds of
change. Chaos daemons of Tzeench roam these lands as if they belonged in the
realm of the Dark Gods themselves. The winds of magic are so strong here that
the daemons of Tzeentch can pass into the plane and roam at will. It is not
uncommon to see many of the most sinister of Tzeentch daemons here. It is
believed that long ago a great Chaos lord of Tzeemtch must have somewhere hidden
a magical fulcrum allowing the free passage of these daemons to and from these
lands. It is also here that The Storm Ravens come to make pacts with daemons
such as the pink horrors and screamers that they are known to commonly bring
into battle at their side as allies.
For the past few
centuries the lands of The Storm Ravens had been operating under the reign of
the great wizard lord, The Raven of Change. Despite what many believe, The Raven
of Change was once a mere mortal, but over time through his dedication to
mastering the arts of the magic of Tzeentch he caught the eye of the gods. Over
time they granted him various mutations and gifts and in the end he was granted
the privilege of becoming a daemon prince, as so many other warriors of chaos
strive to do. The Raven of Change was a superior general and wizard on the
battlefield, but also was very adept at keeping order, as much as order can be
kept within chaos living alongside each other, within The Storm Ravens. Until
recent times The Raven of Change didn’t cause any more trouble for other chaos
tribes than any other did to all the rest. These tendencies ended with the rise
of the new chaos lord to north, The Lion, who leads one of the most powerful
Slaanesh tribes in all of the Nordlands. It is unknown why The Raven of Change
enjoyed tormenting the new lord to the north, but in the end this lead to his
demise.
Due to the threat
of all-out war between the forces of Order and Destruction, it would be desired
that all forces of Destruction accept a single leader to follow in the coming
days. The question is who would this leader be? Should it be The Lion, or should
it be The Raven of Change to lead with his wisdom of several centuries
experience in the world? The solution to answer this question was of course to
have an epic battle to prove to the gods that one warrior is stronger than the
other. This battle would be known as The Rumble in the Wastes. This battle was
hard fought for The Storm Ravens, but they could not overcome the ferocity that
the Slaaneshi warband packed under the leadership of The Lion. Unfortunately for
the forces of Destruction, The Raven of Change was taken by his wounds in the
battle, loosing centuries worth of experience with magic and battle strategy.
This brings us to the
present time where the forces of Slaanesh and The Storm Ravens have both allied
under the leadership of The Lion. Upon the death of The Raven of Change, his
longtime understudy, Lord Corvus, has stepped into his new role as lord champion
and general of The Storm Ravens. Like his mentor, Lord Corvus is also a great
sorcerer of Tzeentch, but his journey has just become. He is still a mortal and
lacks the wisdom and gifts that The Raven of Change possessed. Despite this Lord
Corvus is more than worthy of his new role and is set to serve as second in
command of the forces of Destruction that is to be assembled over the coming
months. Where the future of The Storm Ravens goes from here, no one can be sure. |
